As a four-year-old, Tommy was fanatic about big trucks, trains, and cars. When he was diagnosed with cancer and going through his treatments, the only thing that made him feel better was for his mom Heather to drive him around to construction sites where he could see the big equipment. Tommy also loved animals and Peter Pan. Because of this, he and his Wish Granters June and Julia decided that a trip to Walt Disney World would be his wish, even though he had to finish his treatments first.
Finally, the day came when Tommy and his family had a great send-off party at Red Robin, his all-time favorite restaurant. They were chauffeured to the airport by a limousine, and when they arrived at their Give Kids the World cottage in Orlando, the magic began! Heather laughingly said, “This was the only place where the boys could have ice cream for breakfast!”
At the Magic Kingdom, Tommy bravely went on all the rides—his favorite was Splash Mountain. “I’m not afraid at all,” he explained. “I love it!” Since Thomas loves Peter Pan, he rode Peter Pan’s Flight multiple times. Tommy and his brother Will purchased several souvenirs: cars, planes, and fire rescue trucks. The family also enjoyed Epcot, Animal Kingdom, and Universal Studios. There, Tommy was a big fan of the Harry Potter area and playing make-believe.
“There are no words to describe this incredible week,” Tommy’s parents said. “Everyone was so gracious, and it enforces your belief in humanity. Thank you, Make-A-Wish!”
